Bedrock Gatherings

“So then you are […] also members of the household of God, built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the cornerstone.”  – Ephesians 2:19-20

Drawing insights from Scripture, the Reformed tradition, and the Foundations workshop, each month we explore a different topic facing Christians today.  Bedrock Gatherings are conversational and interactive, and most topics are covered in one evening.

For fall 2022, we are dedicating our four Bedrock Gathering sessions to a special program—Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s Life and Legacy: Four Turning Points.  The life and legacy of Dietrich Bonhoeffer provides an important bellwether for dramatic changes the Christian Church today. Four turning points in Bonhoeffer’s story show him navigating the moment and raise important questions for our time. These points will be explored in depth with vignettes, quotes, and group discussion in four sessions meeting from 7:00 – 8:30 pm on Zoom:

Session 1:  Thursday, September 8

Vignette: The Jewish Question of 1933

Question Raised: When is the Gospel itself at risk?

Session 2:  Thursday, October 6

    Vignette: Kristallnacht, 1938

Question Raised: What holds the Christian community together when everything else is pulling it apart?

Session 3:  Thursday, November 3

Vignette: The Fall of France, 1940

Question Raised: What is responsible Christian action in the face of extraordinary threats?

Session 4:  Thursday, December 1

Vignette: Option to Escape from Prison, 1944

Question raised: Is God real and active at the center of the World as much as at the center of the Church?

Each session stands on its own, so there is no requirement to attend all four sessions.

Bedrock Gatherings are generally the first Thursday of every month (except June and August) from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m, with the exception that our September Bedrock Gathering starts the first Thursday after Labor Day.  Currently all Bedrock Gatherings are being held virtually.

RSVPs are helpful for our planning, but not required.  To RSVP or for more information, email Rev. Sarah Kromer at
